Pew Center for Arts & Heritage announces grant for Poquessing Trail of History, November 2024

The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage announced a $271,680 grant to Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia in support of the Poquessing Trail of History project: Poquessing Creek Trail of History: The Land, The People, The Stories | The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. Philadelphia Inquirer article on Byberry Township African American Burial Ground

On March 28, 2023, The Philadelphia Inquirer published an article on efforts to preserve the 1780 Byberry Township African American Burial Ground: “Hoping to save a long-neglected Black burial ground in Northeast Philly.” The article details the partnership between the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia and the Society for the Preservation of Philadelphia African American Assets, in cooperation with Byberry Friends Meeting and Friends of Northeast Philadelphia History, all of whom are working together to determine how best to restore the site and honor those interred there. The Burial Ground is part of Preservation Alliance’s Poquessing Trail of History project and the other organizations are all stakeholders in the project.
