Benjamin Cooper Tavern (1734) as the American Revolution Museum of Southern New Jersey

CCHS merged with the City of Camden Historical Society in 1922 and has occupied the historic house Pomona Hall since 1924. In 1967 CCHS built the Charles S. Boyer building, which includes the Hineline Research Library and auditorium as well as the Camden County Museum as connecting buildings to Pomona Hall. Starting in 2015, CCHS’s began to build the strengths of their focus on the Pomona Hall’s depiction of the lives of affluent European Quakers in the 18th century and the Camden County Museum’s focus on the Industrial Revolution. The expanded focus included adding the words “cultural enrichment” to the mission statement. Our new approach was more balanced and inclusive where everyone can feel comfortable visiting here. By the year 2023, CCHS better reflected the community in which it resided and now gives residents and visitors many more reasons to visit including inclusive exhibitions, art installations, a sculpture park, community garden, and new virtual and digital access to our programming and collections.

CCHS is presently restoring the the Benjamin Cooper Tavern (1734) in Camden and will adaptively re-use it as the American Revolution Museum of Southern New Jersey. The first floor of the new museum will open in June 2026.
